On March 23, 2020, I got the copies of Medicare’s official ruling on a claim for a client from Valparaiso. The client got them in the mail and forwarded them to me. I compared the official ruling to the bill that was sent to our client. I was shocked but not surprised.
A group of doctors in northwest Indiana used medical billing services with addresses in Louisiana and Colorado. Our client was being billed for $2,028. But the official ruling of Medicare was that for the service with a billed charge of $2,028, THE DOCTORS COULD CHARGE NOTHING!
The doctors and their medical billing firms were completely ignoring Medicare’s ruling and billing our client directly for an amount that Medicare already ruled could not be billed to the patient – our client.
I wrote letters to all the billing parties involved. I told them that they were ignoring a ruling by Medicare that they already got. I told them to stop billing our client for $2,028 and follow the rules of Medicare. If they don’t stop billing our client, I will help our client to file a complaint against the doctors and their billing firm(s) for their unethical business practices.
All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency helps all our clients without charge when there is a Medicare related medical billing problem that could cost our client money. If your insurance agent or agency does not give this high level of customer service, why not switch to an insurance agency that does follow that high standard – like this one?
