One of our clients brought some bills and a payment demand letter from a collection law firm to our agency’s office in Munster, Indiana. The receptionist at that office is Danielle MacDonald. She read and copied the client’s papers and forwarded the copies to me. The client is from Hobart, Indiana.
In a note to me to introduce the papers, Danielle told me what she told the client. She guessed that the medical bill problem was caused by one of a few things. She was correct. Here is part of the note that Danielle sent to me. She used to work at a hospital. Every senior on Medicare should pay attention to what Danielle wrote in her note to me.
The client told me that if he did get a bill from the hospital, he tossed it because he has a Plan F Medicare supplement policy. I told him that he should never do that because Medicare isn’t a perfect system and neither are the billing systems of medical service providers like doctors, labs, and hospitals. I told him that he should never disregard a bill. Instead, he should bring it to us with any related documents like the ones that he had a habit of tossing away.
I told him that often times payments from insurance companies get overlooked and don’t always get credited to a patient properly due to bulk check payments or just being overlooked or lost. I told him that you could help him but that he had worsened the problem by waiting until it was sent to a collection law firm. Woody, please send me a copy of what you write to help this client. I know that it will be interesting.
Well, I checked things and Danielle was correct. The insurance company had sent two checks to pay all the bills for our client. But the medical firm NEVER CASHED THE CHECKS. Our client’s account was sent to a collection law firm because someone at the medical firm goofed and never cashed the checks that were sent by the insurance company. We saved the client from a collection lawsuit and bills.
All the help that we gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. The owners, managers, and staff of this insurance agency really do care about our clients. We prove that every day by going the extra mile for our clients and giving them a high level of customer service. Maybe you should become our client.
